How to Finish a Biscornu

Dwelling Place Biscornu page SMALL

This is the first biscornu I finished by myself (I had a great teacher)

What is a biscornu?

Biscornu” is a french word meaning “which has an irregular, strange shape

It is used as a pin cushion or just as a fun, quirky and cute decoration. Some people love making them so much they put them in a LARGE glass jar. It looks great that way and fun to pull them out and show them to people.

They can be embellished with beads to give it a little flair.

Basically, any chart which is square can be made into a biscornu. It consists of two squares (top & bottom). They have to be stitched on the same count fabric to they will be the same size and preferably from the same fabric manufacturer or fabric dyer.

There is a one-thread back stitch around each piece which have to be exactly the same size. The pattern will indicate this backstitch with a line on the chart. It’s VERY IMPORTANT that the backstitch on both top and bottom are the same size.

Click the link below for written instructions including photos that Donna Fedewa (my sweet friend, the biscornu queen) and I put together so finishing your biscornu will be a breeze.
