Whimsy 365: Day 33

Our former priest, Fr. George, gave a homily quite awhile ago that made an impact on me. He was talking about love, real love. The phrase ‘I love you’ is said so often by so many that it’s lost it’s true meaning. He said, “love is not without sacrifice”. If you love someone, you are willing to sacrifice for them. Whether you sacrifice your time, money, resources…whatever it may be, you will make these sacrifices because you love that person.

If everyone looked at love through the same lens and really thought about it before saying ‘I love you’ (especially youngsters), I bet it wouldn’t be said quite so freely.

Blessings,

Teresa

Whimsy 365: Day 32

You can’t out-give God. Have you ever heard that saying?

The more you give, the more you receive. Not that you should give only so you get something in return. What I mean is give of your time, talent & resources not expecting anything in return. The return will come but in ways you never expected and from places you never expected.

Read this article for more about how you can’t out-give God.

Whimsy 365: Day 31

This sketch was inspired by a bracelet made from vintage spoons. It was a gift from a sweet friend and the quote “Reality has boundaries, Imagination is endless” is hand- punched into the bracelet.

I not only love the bracelet (and my friend) but I love the quote as well. We all need to use our imagination. It’s not just for artist and writers. Our lives are enriched when we use our imagination. Check out this article about using your imagination.

Whimsy 365: Day 30

Now you know why I called this challenge Whimsy 365…..I am all over the place with my ideas. I want to be able to sketch whatever inspires me that day. This sketch is quite different for me. Well, the face and hair are recognizable as my art, but the feeling is different.

It’s dreamy…..she’s daydreaming while the cool breeze blows the flowers from the ground up through her hair as if they are following her dreams into the sky.

This would be a fun one to paint!

Blessings,

Teresa

Whimsy 365: Day 28

Some days I know exactly what I want to sketch and other days I ponder and ponder and….nothing. That’s what happened today so I just started with a single flower, then a leaf, then another flower….I just kept going and going until the page was filled.

I enjoyed the process. As I kept going, I was thinking of where to place each leaf and flower to make the overall pattern interesting.

I posted a thumbnail of this sketch on Facebook and my hubby commented, “Looks like that could be a coloring book”. My friend, Teresa, commented, “Adult coloring books are all the rage right now, Teresa….maybe a new venture to you!”

More and more comments came in about me creating an adult coloring book. The funny thing is about three years ago I flirted with the idea of creating a coloring book using my gigantic collection of line art I’ve drawn over the past 20 years. I could seriously make 50 coloring books with all the art I have on file.

However, at the time, I was so busy with other aspects of my business the idea was put on the back burner.

With the current surge of adult coloring books on the market today, the idea of creating my own has surfaced again. At first, I was thinking I missed the boat and it may only be a trend but I don’t think so. From what I understand, people find coloring therapeutic and they purchase more than one coloring book so they have different books to choose from when the mood strikes.

Needless to say, I am taking the bull by the horns and I will be creating my very own coloring book. I will keep you posted as to how it’s coming along.

What sort of images from my storehouse of art would you like to color? Angels, teddy bears, florals, Santas/snowmen, Halloween…..leave a comment below and let me know your thoughts.

Blessings,

Teresa

To my Dad and Mom! As most of you know, my Dad passed Dec 18, 2014. Not a day goes by that I don’t miss him. This sketch was inspired by my favorite photo of my Dad and Mom. Too me, it clearly shows the love they have for each other.

Today is my friend’s birthday. Jill and I met in 6th grade and were joined at the hip most of our high school days. She was my maid of honor and I was hers. Over the years we have attempted to keep in touch but as we were raising our families and forming our careers, we naturally grew apart. However, the past 5 years we (along with two other high school friends, Stacie & Vickie) have been getting together once a month for dinner to stay more connected. It’s been amazing!

In July, Jill and I drove to Tennessee to visit another high school buddy, Kristin. We stayed at her house for a few days enjoying her pool, visiting downtown Nashville and attending the Luke Bryan concert. Just last week Kristin flew in for a visit. We stayed at Jill’s house for 4 days and 3 nights indulging in late night talks, soaking in the hot tub, rockin’ at the Luke Bryan concert (yes, he’s worth going to see twice in one year!), dressing up for a Halloween party, splurging on some afternoon shopping, and enjoying Sunday brunch with our Moms……all the things us girls love to do!!

I am truly blessed with many wonderful friends, but there’s such a special connection with this group of high school friends. We know each others history, family & “secrets”.  I hope you are blessed to have stayed connected with some of your buddies from school, too.

Happy Birthday, Jill!  Cheers!

Blessings,

Teresa

I really don’t have a story behind this sketch, other than I love drawing teddy bears and conveying the tenderness between two souls.

Whimsy365: Day 24

Well……if you don’t already know….the Country Bears Calendar that I have been painting since 1998 is in it’s final days. The 2017 calendar is the last Country Bears calendar. I must say I am extremely sad over this.  My Teddy Bears have been a huge part of my success over the past 20 years. I am grateful to Amcal (ACCO) for their amazing publication of this calendar.

So, today, I was thinking about how much I enjoy creating art for the Country Bears Calendar and this sketch was the result of my thinking. Whether I license another teddy bear image or not, I will still sketch what “took me to the dance”.

Blessings,

Teresa
