happy mother’s day!

May 14, 2012

I hope you all had a wonderful Mother’s Day yesterday! Mine started out with a walk around the property with my dogs (I am an early riser, so everyone else was asleep). I then went into the studio and started to go through all the photos on my computer for Ryan’s 8th grade graduation coming up in a couple of weeks…..I laughed, I cried, I laughed again……So many great times we’ve had together as a family! Almost EVERY picture of Ryan was of him being silly and making funny faces! He had no idea these pictures could be in his classmates slideshow at the end of 8th grade! teehee
I teared up a bit because the pictures brought floods of memories back and I remember taking each photo as if it happened yesterday. The kids have grown soooo fast and when I stop and realize how fast time goes it disturbs me a bit and makes me want to spend every possible moment enjoying my family.
I had only gotten through year 2005 when the intercom went off…..it was Ryan….he had made me a Mother’s Day breakfast and was calling me up to the house to eat 🙂 It was a wonderful and delicious surprise!
After breakfast we went to mass, then spent the rest of the afternoon at my parents house for a cookout and outdoor games. A perfect day! Sunny, in the 70s with a nice breeze and best of all we were all together!

I’m happy with the way it is turning out and I am grateful that technology has brought us far enough that any individual (without html knowledge) can set up and manage their own website! Can you say control freak?? teehee

Click here to see the patterns I have available.

Hope you have a fun weekend and wishing all you wonderful Mothers a Happy Mother’s Day!

I have been working many hours this week  getting to know wordpress…I am figuring it out slowly. I finally, by the grace of God, figured out how to get my domain name teresakogut.com to come here to this site. I am not computer savvy at all and don’t know html in the least but I keep pressin’ on and it is coming together. So excited!

One thing I did decide to do for now is keep my blog over at blogger. It is more like a personal journal of my life’s happenings and a fun place to share recipes, photos of special occasions and random thoughts I want to share/discuss. Here I will tend to keep it more about my art, inspiration for my art, licensing ventures, new product releases and new pattern releases.

Hope you enjoy looking around……love my new bio page, hope you do too!

I have wanted to have my blog and website all at one site for a few years now……I started the process yesterday and now I have a MESS!!! My blog is ok but my website is inaccessible now…..so the pressure is on to get the new one rolling!! Even though I LOVE blogger….I am creating my new site on wordpress. My understanding is that wordpress blogs are for businesses, not just for journaling. I was up way past my bedtime last night getting a start on the new blog. You can view it here.
Eventually you will be able to type in www.teresakogut.com and the front page will be my blog and I will have a separate pages for biography, photos, and e-commerce pages for original art, calendars & other licensed products, punch needle patterns, prints and wholesale punch needle patterns (accounts will need a password to purchase wholesale). EVERYTHING in one spot!!! I am so excited about this but a little nervous and overwhelmed too. So I keep telling myself…….patience, Teresa, patience……..

Please be patient with me…….I am just starting this new blog in hopes to have it replace my website and existing blog….but this is more than I bargained for and I am feeling a little overwhelmed……there will be quite a learning curve.

However, I do want you to check out American Artists for some of the most talented folk artists in the USA!

joy

“Joy of the Lord”
acrylic over collage paper
©Teresa Kogut

If you had a choice would you rather be happy or joyful?…….what is the difference anyway???? This is a topic we discussed with our Edge youth group a couple months ago and it really stuck with me…to be honest, I never really thought about there being a difference between the two……
Happy – c. 1205 means lucky, favored by fortune, prosperous, chance.
Basically it is a feeling we get when something good happens to us. It can be fleeting…..very fleeting….as soon as something doesn’t go our way, we are no longer “happy”.
However, joy is another story. Joy is rooted deeper….it comes from within…..even when something has gone wrong, joy remains in us…..why? Because joy comes from faith; a confident trust in God. Faith is essential to joy because it wards off worry, doubt and fear.
I know from my own personal experience, I would not be joyful without my faith…..our family has faced some tough financial difficulties but I do not let that situation or happenstance (a chance circumstance) bring me down. I continue to pray, work hard, move forward and trust God. We always pull through or I should say, God always provides.
As Nehemiah told Israel:
“The Joy of the Lord is your strength.”
Neh 8:10

I just posted on my facebook page

“Wishing everyone a fabulous day!! The sun is shining and I’m feeling energized!! Now let’s go do something great! Even if it is as simple as smiling at a stranger :)”
Then I opened my email and read the below message from Zig…..it was so closely connected to my fb post I felt I needed to share……

The Importance of a Smile

By Zig Ziglar

The dictionary says that to smile is to “look joyous,” or “to have an appearance to excite joy; to contract the features of the face in such a manner as to express pleasure, moderate joy, or love and kindness.”
Generally speaking, the first thing we notice when we meet a person is the smile—or absence of same—on their face.  A favorite compliment is, “You certainly have a beautiful smile.”  Factually, there are very few things that influence for the good and give more encouragement than a sincere smile.  Henry Miller said, “There is power in a smile.  It is one of the best relaxation exercises I know of.”  Joseph Addison said, “What sunshine is to flowers, smiles are to humanity.  They are but trifles, to be sure, but, scattered along life’s pathway, the good they do is inconceivable.”
Several years ago a study revealed something that most people have known for a long time.  After weeks of testing the appearance, personality and attitudes of subjects and their influence on others, the professors at Yale University discovered that a smile is the single most powerful force of influence that people have.  That’s good news, because all of us can generate enough energy for a smile.
A smile has been identified as the “little curve that sets a lot of things straight,” and we’re often told that if we see someone who does not have a smile, we should give them one of ours.  However, we must do more than smile if we’re going to be successful in having a long-term impact on other people.
If we’re really going to influence people after we’ve gotten favorable attention with a pleasant smile, we must communicate with sincerity and honesty.  Now, obviously, a university study should not be required to know that, because the saying is still true that you communicate what you are.  In summation, a warm, friendly smile is a very fine thing.  Think about it.  Better yet, try it!!
