A long time ago, before I took up rug hooking, my mother and I did some rug punching. I would love to do it again, but we used cotton yarn to punch the rugs. What material is used to punch the rugs now? Do you have a source?
I love your patterns and art work, Karen
P.S. I once had a gift and craft shop and sold your prints and calendars.

Hi Karen,
I usually use wool yarn but good to know the cotton yarn works as well. I have a large stock of yarn from a company that has since went out of business. If you’re looking for wool yarn, kindred spirits/Ali Strebel. http://www.alistrebeldesigns.com/categories/Wool-Yarn/

When you punch hook the rugs, what material do you use? Years ago I used cotton rug yarn (aunt Lydia’s) but that is no longer available. Do you use wool or cotton yarn, or wool strips?
I want to order a rug canvas but need to know what to use. Thanks for the great patterns and I look forward to your answer, Karen

Hi Karen,
My patterns are hand drawn on monks cloth or scottish linen. You can punch them using wool yarn and a rug punch needle or hook them using wool strips and a rug hook. Rug punching you work from the back so the lettering is backwards. Rug hooking you work from the front. Hope this helps!
